Honeysuckles are believed to have been named in America's Colonial Days after Alexander Garden, a South Carolina physician.
Over 200 varieties of honeysuckle lend their distintively sweet fragrance from their long wild stems. The lovely honeysuckle is a popular garden plant as it is fast growing and attracts beneficial insects such as bees. Honeysuckle are not grown commercially but are easily propagated in the home garden.
Some varities of honeysuckle are used as homeopathic remedies for asthma or other breathing difficulties. L. periclymenum is ahomeopathic remedy, used for irritability with violent outbursts.
